![]() Return to the Arthritis Resource Center Article Listing MSM and Arthritis: The truth about methyl-sulfonyl-methane in the treatment of Arthritis by J.R. Rogers MSM
is touted highly principally by those companies who are marketing
products which contain this supplement. (methyl-sulfonyl-methane)
Frankly, it is greatly overrated in the overall picture. It has historically
been used to treat asthma, allergies, yeast infections, muscle cramps,
constipation, stress, hormonal problems, diabetes, fatigue and emphysema
among other things. However, while much promotion has been made by
companies trying to make a quick profit, MSM's use in arthritis in
still under question. In the context of joint care, MSM is one factor in the development of collagen (Another highly touted ingredient). Collagen (a protein) creates tendons (thin sheets to form skin). Collagen is part of the "glue" that holds the cartilage matrix together. I
am not saying that MSM has no positive properties in fighting arthritis.
What I am saying is that the companies that use the ingredient claim
that you absolutely must have this to gain successful rehabilitation
of your joints. This is simply not true. There other ingredients that
accomplish the same objective with greater efficacy. For my recommendation
on the ingredients you should be taking for maximum arthritis relief,

ingredients page.
